KEYNOTE PRESENTATION:

Cyberspace Operations, Resiliency and Mission Assurance – Manisha Parmar, NATO

At the Warsaw summit in June 2016, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) declared cyberspace as an operational domain, alongside the kinetic domains of air, land and sea.  This means that NATO, as well as other nations who have also declared cyberspace as a domain of operations, must be able to conduct missions in, possibly contested, cyberspace.  This talk will explore, from the Commander’s perspective, what exactly this means with respect to required functions and capabilities using real-life scenarios to demonstrate a variety of aspects, including Communication and Information System (CIS) security (which includes cyber defense), cyber situational awareness and cyber intelligence, and lastly Command and Control (C2) in cyberspace.

About the Speaker

Ms. Manisha Parmar has been a Senior Scientist with the NATO Communication and Information Agency (NCI Agency) in Den Haag, the NLD, for over the past 5 years, and a security professional for the past 15 years.  Her research areas include cyber defense information sharing, advanced threat detection techniques and, most recently, critical cyber assets and cyber key terrain mission mapping in order to achieve cyber resiliency for mission assurance.
